The opening weekend of the 2014 college football season rolls along, and on Friday night, we will be treated to the season-debut appearance of the no. 8 team in the country, and the defending Big Ten Champions, the Michigan State Spartans, as they take on Jacksonville State.

More from College Football

Had it not been for the one loss to Notre Dame last season, the Spartans would have been the ones playing the Florida State Seminoles in Pasadena for the national championship, not Auburn. But still, the school enjoyed one of the most successful campaigns in their history.

Led by quarterback Connor Cook and one of the more punishing defensive units in the country, Michigan State went 11-1 in the regular season, and then followed that up by ending Ohio State’s winning streak in the Big Ten Championship Game. From there, they would go on to defeat the Stanford Cardinal in the Rose Bowl, signaling a new era in the conference.

Given how they performed last season, many have the Spartans pegged as one of the contenders to make the inaugural College Football Playoff, and we’ll begin to see with their opener on Friday night if that’s true or not.

Here is how you can watch all the action live on Friday:

Date: August 29

Start Time: 7:30 PM ET

Location: East Lansing, MI

Stadium: Spartans Stadium

TV Info: Big Ten Network
