Although the Giants ended the preseason 5-0 last night with a 16-13 victory over the New England Patriots, there is no question they have a lot of improving to do on offense prior to the start of the season.

More from New England Patriots

Head coach Tom Coughlin planned on playing the starters last night for a few series, but pulled them earlier than some expected after they failed to pick up first downs.

“They had been in there two series,” Coughlin told the media after the game. “If they wanted to play more, they should’ve made some first downs and stayed out there.”

Eli Manning was uninspiring yet again, throwing 1 for 4 for a total of zero yards. In five preseason games, Manning has notched only one touchdown and the Giants offense has looked deplorable.

Tom Coughlin did not mince words after the game when asked about his team’s inability to get the passing game going.

“I thought the worst play of the night was, again, the misconnection between Rueben Randle and Eli [Manning],” Coughlin continued. “I thought, he thought” – one of those kinds of things. We’re all – everyone in this room – is tired of hearing that stuff. There’s no place for that.”

When asked if his team will have confidence on offense moving forward, Coughlin had a poignant response.

“You have to have confidence. We’ve had preseasons before where we haven’t had a lot of numbers with our first group, our first offense, for sure. Hopefully we can carry over.”

The New York Giants begin the regular season against the Detroit Lions next weekend.
