The coming of Knowshon Moreno was never a good sign for Daniel Thomas. The Miami Dolphins released Thomas on Saturday, according to The Sun Sentinel. He is one of the Dolphins 22 moves so that the team can get down to the 53 player roster minimum.

More from Miami Dolphins

While no Miami running back stood out last season, Lamar Miller edged Daniel Thomas for time. When Moreno arrived this offseason through free agency, it could only mean bad things for Thomas. What was worse, Thomas struggled with a hamstring injury through camp. His preseason finale was a strong performance of 13 carries for 38 yards, but apparently it wasn’t enough to prove that he deserved a spot on the team.

The expected depth chart at running back for the Dolphins should include Knowshon Moreno, Lamar Miller and Damien Willliams. Williams is a rookie out of Oklahoma. He went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft.

In his two years with the Dolphins, Thomas had 365 carries for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 42 passes for 291 yards and three receiving touchdowns. The running back may have a hard time finding a new team, however his NFL experience could be deemed valuable. His lack of production in 2013 could easily be attributed to offensive line woes. He still managed 4.2 yards per carry.

He and Mikel Leshoure are two former second-round running backs looking for work.
