The Green Bay Packers head into cutdown day with a quarterback dilemma.

Not at the top of the depth chart—Aaron Rodgers is the unquestioned No. 1. Rather, there is a tight battle for the backup spot behind Rodgers and according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, there will be only one survivor:

Matt Flynn has more experience than Scott Tolzien and led the Pack to a 2-2 record last season while Rodgers was out with a broken collarbone.

More from Green Bay Packers

Released by both the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills last season, Flynn returned to Green Bay after Rodgers was hurt last season. He completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,146 yards and seven touchdowns with four interceptions.

Flynn, 29, backed up Rodgers for four years, 2008-11, before leaving for the Seattle Seahawks and a big free-agent payday. But he was beaten out in training camp in 2012 by rookie Russell Wilson and never started a game for Seattle, who dealt him to Oakland in the spring of 2013.

In four preseason games, two of which he started, Flynn was only 18-for-38 for 232 yards, with three touchdowns and the only interception thrown by Green Bay in the four practice games.

Tolzien, 27, came to the Packers last year after he was released by the San Francisco 49ers, where he spent more than two seasons on the roster without ever playing in a game. He made two starts in Rodgers’ stead last season, during which Green Bay was 0-1-1. He completed 61.1 percent of his passes in three games for 717 yards and a touchdown, but threw five picks.

This preseason, Tolzein was 38-for-56 for 477 yards and three scores.

Tolzien would be subject to waivers because he has practice squad eligibility. Flynn, if released, could sign elsewhere immediately.
