It’s hard to be positive about the New York Giants’ offense. We’ve only gotten through preseason and things are looking grim for them. But then again, it’s only preseason. There’s plenty of time to put in the work. Quarterback Eli Manning is taking the time to recognize the team’s strength and weaknesses.

More from New York Giants

“I think we’ve been running the ball well,” Manning said after Monday morning’s practice, via ESPN.com. “I think we need to get better in the passing attack, finding completions, hitting some big plays down the field. But we’ve been doing that in practice, so we’ve made some strides and made some plays, and we just have to keep protecting the ball and playing smart. We’ve gotten ourselves into some pretty good third-down situations as of late. We’ve just got to convert them.”

The offense is under new leadership of coordinator Ben McAdoo. The upside of the offense is supposedly huge for the Giants — it’s just that we’ve yet to see it get off the ground. Manning is still proud of his unit. Even if things aren’t coming together perfectly, they’re not shooting themselves in the foot in the meantime.

“The big thing happening in the preseason, the reason we won a couple of games, is because we didn’t beat ourselves,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. “If you look at the numbers, you can see that. So that is something we can hang our hat on, regardless of what the statistics are.”
