Here is the new Amway/USA Today Coaches Poll for September 2, 2014:

1. Florida State: The preseason number one stays that way despite a sloppy win over unranked Oklahoma State.

2. Alabama: The Tide stay at 2 after a win over West Virginia.

3. Oklahoma: Thrashed Louisiana Tech on Saturday, but that should come as no surprise.

4. Oregon: Offense was on a roll, but they did give up 13 first half points to South Dakota.

5. Auburn: When Nick Marshall joined the game after halftime, the Tigers returned to 2013 form.

6. Michigan State: I hope the defense got a little bit of a workout in against Jacksonville State.

7. Ohio State: They actually fell a spot for letting Navy hang around for 52 minutes.

8. Georgia: The Bulldogs jump four slots with Gurley trampling Clemson.

9. Baylor: Recording their first shutout against an FBS school since 1995 earns them a one slot jump this week.

10. Stanford: Gained a spot after hammering UC-Davis

11. UCLA: The Bruins slide four places since they couldn’t get their offense going against Virginia.

12. LSU: LSU only gains one spot after come-from-behind win over Badgers.

13. Texas A&M: They destroyed South Carolina in Columbia to halt FBS’ longest home winning streak earning them a seven spot jump.

14. USC: The Trojans are up one after dismantling Fresno State again.

15. Notre Dame: The Irish jump two slots after thumping Rice in Golson’s return.

16. Arizona State: The Sun Devils also jump two slots after coasting against Weber State.

17. Mississippi: The win over perennial BCS-thorn Boise State moves them up two spots.

18. Nebraska: The Huskers set a Big Ten(14) conference record for all purpose yards in thrashing of Florida Atlantic, jumping them four spots.

19. Wisconsin: The Badgers drop five after blowing a late lead to LSU.

20. Kansas State: Thumped Stephen F. Austin to jump one spot.

21. South Carolina: They drop 12 spots after a miserable showing against the Aggies at home.

22. Missouri: The Tigers join the top 25 with their win over South Dakota State.

23. North Carolina: The Tarheels hold steady at number 23 with a win over Liberty

24. Clemson: The Tigers stay in the top 25, but fall eight slots after loss to Georgia.

25: Texas: The Longhorns actually fall a spot despite a convincing win over North Texas.

Washington was the only team to fall from the rankings after a lackluster performance against Hawaii.
