The Missouri Tigers came away with the 49-24 victory against head coach Gary Pinkel’s former team, the Toledo Rockets, on Saturday at The Glass Bowl.

More from College Football

It didn’t take long for Missouri to get on the board, as they reached pay dirt via a Russell Hansbrough 16-yard rush 4:06 into the game. The junior tailback finished with 84 yards on 18 carries.

While Hansbrough had a solid game on the ground, the Tigers won this game because of their passing attack.

Missouri received a strong performance from starting quarterback Maty Mauk. The redshirt sophomore finished the game with a whopping 325 yards and five touchdowns on 21 of 32 passing.

Mauk also added a score on the ground in the second quarter.  The dual-threat quarterback posted 36 rushing yards on 12 carries.

The Tigers’ top pass-catcher was receiver Bud Sasser, who caught five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. He also made perhaps the play of the game, as he forced a fumble on a Toledo interception return that saved a touchdown and allowed Missouri to keep the ball near the end of the first quarter.

On the other side of the ball, Toledo quarterback Phillip Ely struggled. The junior quarterback was 17-34 for 204 yards and an interception before having to leave the game early due to an apparent serious leg injury.  Alonzo Russell was Ely’s top target, catching six passes for 89 yards.

Kareem Hunt was the star of the Rockets’ offense, rushing for 148 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries.

But Hunt’s big day wasn’t enough, as the Tigers had control of this one throughout the day.

Missouri’s next game comes against Central Florida next Saturday at home. The Rockets will face off against Cincinnati next Friday on the road.
