Serving a 162-game suspension leaves a professional baseball player with a lot of time to kill, so with the New York Yankees trying to hang on in the pennant race, erstwhile third baseman Alex Rodriguez didn’t spent his Saturday night in the Bronx, but rather was in South Bend, Ind.

Rodriguez was rocking a Notre Dame golf shirt and was photographed with some fans at Notre Dame Stadium as the Fighting Irish blanked Michigan 31-0.

As you may have heard, Rodriguez was suspended as part of baseball’s probe into the Biogenesis aging clinic in the Miami area last year. He was originally issued a 211-game suspension, which was later reduced by an arbitrator to 162 games—the entire 2014 season.

Rodriguez, who says he plans to return to the Yankees in 2015, is now 39 and struggled through an injury-plagued 2013 season, limited to 44 games after hip surgery. He hit .244/.348/.423 with seven home runs and 19 RBI.

Rodriguez ranks fifth on baseball’s all-time home run list with 654 and is also in the all-time top 10 with 1,969 RBI (sixth) and 1,919 runs (10th).

Rodriguez was the American League Most Valuable Player in 2003 with the Texas Rangers and in 2005 and 2007 with the Yankees and is a 14-time All-Star—most of which occurred before he took Barry Bonds’ place as the most hated player in baseball.
