You can look throughout the history of sports and pick out a lot of athletes who never panned out for one reason or another, but very few will stick out in your minds throughout the years. Former no. 2 overall draft pick Ryan Leaf is one of them, as he could easily be considered one of the more self-destructive people in the history of athletics.

And now, that self-destruction has taken yet another step further.

According to a report from the AP, Leaf has been sentenced to five years in a Texas prison for a violation of his probation.

Back in 2012, Leaf violated his Texas probation when he broke into a home to steal prescription pills.

Via Dallas Morning News:

"A Texas prosecutor says the former San Diego Chargers quarterback and Washington State standout won’t have to serve any time behind bars in Texas because of time he’s served in Montana. Leaf violated his Texas probation when he ran afoul with the law in Montana for breaking into a home to steal prescription drugs. He pleaded guilty for felony burglary and criminal possession of a dangerous drug in 2012."

Back in 1998, Leaf was nearly the no. 1 overall pick in the draft after a standout career at Washington State, but that distinction ended up going to Peyton Manning, and it’s been obvious ever since that the Colts made the right choice.
