Nike working on creating the ‘Athlete Plane’ of the future

In the 1950’s we were supposed to be driving flying cars and regularly traveling between Earth and Mars as consumers. Dreams of future travel have long been an obsession of many people, but apparently athletic apparel company Nike has been working on something that could change the way athletes travel forever.

The Daily Mail in the UK has revealed that Nike is working with travel and technology company Teague on coming up with a solution to the travel needs of athletes.

Yes, we’re talking about a brand new plane, dubbed the ‘Athletes Plane,’ with a focus on recuperation and high-end travel for today’s highly tuned athletic machines (aka people).

One of the main catalysts for this new plane is the world of professional soccer, where teams are often traveling thousands of miles just to play a mid-week game and travel back for a game just two or three days later.

It’s something that Teague creative director Philipp Steiner points out puts teams at a statistical disadvantage according to The Daily Mail.

“When professional athletes travel across multiple time zones their team is statistically more likely to lose – the Athlete’s Plane essentially levels the playing field.”

Just what is the ‘Athlete’s Plane?’ According to The Daily Mail it can be described like this:

"The ‘Athlete’s Plane’ is designed to provide pre and post performance necessities which could make air travel an ideal place for injured or tired players to begin their recovery on the way home after the game."

The plane is to be equipped with lie-flat seating, compression sleeves for sore muscles, cabins with noise canceling technology and an area for in-flight testing and analysis for checking out injuries and fitness levels.

Leave it up to Nike to come up with an innovative way to serve the athletes it pays multi-millions of dollars to market their products while also being able to sell something to someone else.

So the next time you look in the sky and see a plane, it could be a bunch of athletes getting the latest in high-end recuperation technology.
