Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Head coach Chip Kelly, quarterback Nick Foles and the rest of the Philadelphia Eagles will look to better their record to 3-0 on this young season Sunday, as they welcome in the Washington Redskins into Lincoln Financial Field for an early season NFC East meeting. The Redskins come into this one at 1-1 on the season, following their huge win last weekend over the Jacksonville Jaguars, despite losing starting quarterback Robert Griffin III to an ankle injury for an extended period of time.

Keys to Victory

The Eagles are riding one of the biggest highs of any team early on this season. After their amazing come from behind win in Week 1 over the Jaguars at home, they pulled out another comeback victory this past Monday night on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. As always, establishing LeSean McCoy as the main threat in this one is crucial, opening up the passing lanes for Foles, who had a little better outing against the Colts than he did in Week 1 against the Jaguars.

Defensively, with Kirk Cousins making his first start of the season with Griffin out, throwing him off his game and getting as much pressure as possible early and often will come in handy.

But, that could be a tough task, as it seems as if Cousins is a tough one to get rattled. Like we saw last weekend when Griffin went down with the ankle injury, Cousins could indeed be the man to lead this team into the future, and if he can get rolling early against this Eagles passing defense that is yielding just a shade over 200 yards per game, the rest of the game could be smooth sailing for this offense.

With the way Kelly, Foles, McCoy and the rest of this offense has been rolling the first two weeks, the Redskins might find themselves in a shootout, and success for them starts with Cousins being the signal-caller in this Jay Gruden offense that everyone believes that he is.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Eagles -7

Moneyline: Redskins +240, Eagles -280

O/U: 50

Prediction

Judging from the past two weeks, we kind of have an idea who this Eagles team is. But the Redskins, well, this will be the first real test of the season for this team and their new quarterback in Cousins. A win here for the ‘Skins would be a huge statement and prove a lot of the Cousins supporters correct, however they just don’t have the defensive unit to stop what the Eagles are bringing their way. They’ll put up points, but not as many as the Eagles will.

Final Score: Eagles 35, Redskins 24
