A busy off-season has allowed a few signings to be swept under the rug and forgotten. One of those deals? The Boston Celtics agreeing to terms with former number two overall pick Evan Turner. While the two sides agreed to a deal amidst free agency, the signing had yet become official, but according to A. Sherrod Blakely of Comcast Sports Network, the Celtics will complete the deal prior to the beginning of training camp.

Signed with a portion of the Celtics mid-level exception, this is expected to be a “bounce-back” season for Evan Turner after an abysmal 2013-14 campaign.

More from Boston Celtics

Despite averaging a career-high 14 points on 42 percent shooting, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, Turner’s season will be most remembered for his time with the Indiana Pacers. Swapped for Danny Granger at the trade deadline to be “Lance Stephenson insurance”, he brought nothing to the Pacers amidst their playoff run but bad play and locke rroom issues.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Stephenson and Turner got into a fist fight mid-season. Now with the Celtics, Turner can only go up from here. It’s unclear what role he’ll play in Brad Stevens’ offense, but there’s a lot riding on his future. A good season? It won’t net him much in free agency, but it’d provide optimism from a potential free agent suitor. A bad season?

Well, China will possibly be an option a la Jordan Crawford and Andray Blatche who both signed overseas deals this off-season. It’s going to be interesting. The fan base wasn’t ecstatic over the signing, but at the beginning of the season, everyone begins with a clean slate. It’s up to Turner to change the minds of his doubter.
