Before the Miami Heat lost LeBron James, they agreed to a deal with Charlotte Hornets’ forward Josh McRoberts. McRoberts is coming off the best year of his career and will likely serve as a backup to the Heat’s biggest acquisition, Luol Deng.

More from Miami Heat

Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders believes McRoberts could be in for a nice season, calling him the Heat’s “top unheralded player.”

"The HEAT will be McRoberts’ sixth NBA team in eight seasons and most casual fans couldn’t pick him out of a lineup. However, even though McRoberts had his struggles earlier in his career, he played very well with Charlotte over the last two seasons. He filled the stat sheet and contributed on both ends of the floor, which is why the HEAT rewarded him with a four-year, $23 million contract. The question is, will McRoberts be able to pick up right where he left off in Miami or will he regress to the mediocre player he seemed to be earlier in his career? That’s something worth watching throughout this season."

McRoberts’ versatility should give the Heat a nice option off of the bench. Kennedy’s questions are valid and it will be interesting to see how well McRoberts plays.

McRoberts averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season while shooting 43.6% from the floor, 36.1% from beyond the arc and 72.9% from the free throw line. In his seven-year career, the 37th-overall pick in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft has played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic in addition to the Bobcats (Hornets). He’s averaged 5.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 47.6% from the field, 34.2% from three and 72.9% from the charity stripe.
