Now that the drama surrounding Golden State Warriors’ guard Klay Thompson and a potential trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves for power forward Kevin Love is over with Love now suiting up for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Thompson is excited about the upcoming season.

“I’m so happy to be back in the Bay,” Thompson said via Diamond Leung of the Contra Costa Times. “All I know is I’m still here, and I’ve got a Warriors jersey on, and I’m ecstatic.”

Thompson is also eligible for a contract extension but he isn’t worried about that at the moment either.

“I just let (agent Bill Duffy) and the front office sort it out,” Thompson said. “I know if I just keep my mind on hoops and staying healthy, I know everything else will take care of itself.”

Like many in his situation, Thompson will probably wind up becoming a restricted free agent and looking for a max contract, preferably a five-year deal from the Warriors.

Thompson averaged 18.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 44.4% from the field, 41.7% from beyond the arc and 79.5% from the charity stripe. In the postseason, he put up 16.4 points, 3.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 40.8% from the field, 36.4% from three and 79.2% from the free throw line. In his three-year career, Thompson has gone for 16.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 43.5% from the floor, 41.0% from three and 82.7% from the charity stripe. He was selected by the Warriors with the 11th-overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft.
