Before Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo reportedly asked for a trade, many believed the New York Knicks were in the mix to acquire his services. The Knicks are looking to upgrade the talent around Carmelo Anthony while the Celtics are probably best served by rebuilding around their youth.

Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders doesn’t see the Knicks making a move for Rondo.

"The Knicks really have nothing to trade except their 2015 first-rounder, which is probably an overpay–they can just sign him as a FA in 2015 with cap space for the same price. Edit: NYK can’t trade 1st rounder either b/c they owe 2016 pick to Raps in Bargnani trade. Perils of writing quickly without checking."

Although it does seem like a long-shot, Rondo would probably welcome the chance to play with Anthony.

Returning from his ACL injury, Rondo averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line last season. Rondo, who was originally selected by the Celtics with the 21st-overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, has averaged 11.1 points, 8.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor, 25.2% from three and 62.1% from the free throw line in his eight-year NBA career.
