Texas A&M Aggies (6) vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs (12)

In the mighty SEC, there are no two teams that more impressive victories that the sixth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies and the 12th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs, who will do battle at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies went on the road and blew out the then ninth-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks 52-28 in week one while the Bulldogs went into Death Valley and took down the then eighth-ranked Tigers 34-29 two weeks ago. Both teams are led by Heisman Trophy contenders at quarterback, Kenny Hill and Dak Prescott.

Keys to Victory

Both teams have superstar quarterbacks and will lean heavily on them. Hill has completed 118-of-180 passes for 1,745 yards with 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions while rushing for another 136 yards. Prescott has completed 58-of-96 passes for 964 yards with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 378 yards and three touchdowns on 62 attempts. Obviously, whichever quarterback plays better will go a long way towards deciding the winner.

The Bulldogs have put together a solid defense and the Aggies have really exceeded expectations on that side of the ball. However, the powerful Arkansas Razorbacks proved you can run on the Aggies, piling up 285 yards on the ground in the Aggies’ 35-28 overtime victory last week. Few teams have run the ball better than the Bulldogs, led by Prescott and senior running back Josh Robinson, who had 485 yards and five touchdowns on just 62 carries. The Bulldogs are rushing for 270.8 yards per game while the Aggies are giving up 193.4 yards per game. If the Bulldogs’ can exploit that weakness and keep the explosive Aggies’ offense off of the field, they are going to have a fantastic chance to win the game.

Usually, home field advantage plays a huge part in games like but the Aggies have a couple of things going for them. First, they’ve already played in a hostile environment, blowing out South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium. Second, the game is at noon, so the crowd won’t be as impactful as they could be during a night game.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Mississippi State – 2.5
Moneyline: TAMU +120, MSU -140
O/U: 67.5

Prediction

Both teams should be able to put points on the board throughout the night and although the game is in Starkville, Hill has more playmakers to work with than Prescott so I’ll give the slight edge to the Aggies.

Final Score: Texas A&M 38, Mississippi State 35
