LeBron James pranked the Cleveland Cavaliers’ rookies

LeBron James has long been known as an NBA player who’s willing to have fun on the sidelines, probably because he’s been playing in the NBA since he was a teenager.

But in the Cleveland Cavaliers annual Wine and Gold intrasquad scrimmage, which allowed Cavs fans to see James in action for the first time since his return to Cleveland, James’s sense of humor popped up in the pregame routine when he played a harmless little prank on Cavs’ rookies Joe Harris and Alex Kirk.

As the Cavs prepared to run out of the tunnel and onto the court to the excited Cleveland crowd, James told Harris and Kirk to lead the team out, but then held back the rest of the team. The two rookies ran onto the court before realizing they had been had by James.

James was well-known for his pranks and jokes his first time around in Cleveland and it looks like he’s still gonna have fun the second time around, even as he helps the Cavs chase a championship ring. Though the prank was harmless, and likely thought up by James on the spot, he’s probably going to have to come up with something better to keep the rookies on their toes during the season.

Harris told The Akron Beacon Journal‘s Jason Lloyd that he wasn’t upset at the joke by James:

“(LeBron) is the biggest kid on the floor or the weight room or wherever,” Harris said of the joke. “He’s a great teammate, a great guy and it’s a lot of fun to be around him.”

Hopefully for the Cavs, it will be a lot of fun both off the court and on it with James.
