Kawhi Leonard improved once again during the 2013-2014 season. Then, during the playoffs he took his game to another level. He was arguably the best player on the court for the Spurs during their five-game series victory over the Miami Heat during the NBA Finals and was rewarded with the NBA Finals MVP Award.

Now, Kawhi Leonard, like the rest of the class of 2011, is looking for an extension. If Kawhi Leonard doesn’t sign an extension by the deadline oc October 31, he will become a restricted free agent in the summer. Of course, the Spurs would still be able to match any offer to keep Kawhi Leonard so it wouldn’t be a huge deal.

However, both the Spurs and Kawhi Leonard would like to get a deal done before the deadline. He is clearly seeking a max deal but may not receive one. According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Spurs and Kawhi Leonard are likely to reach a deal worth just under max money.

Kawhi Leonard averaged 12.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 52.2% from the field, 37.9% from beyond the arc and 80.2% from the free throw line. In the playoffs, he put up 14.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 51.0% from the floor, 41.9% from three and 73.6% from the charity stripe.
