Boston Celtics big man Gerald Wallace may be on the move this season but the numbers say it’s far more valuable to trade him than to waive him this preseason.

Gerald Wallace doesn’t figure to be a large part of the Boston Celtics future, and that means we may see him moved sooner rather than later. The question is when will he be moved — in the season via trade or within the next few weeks via the waiver wire.

Chuck Myron from Hoops Rumors opines that the Boston Celtics may hang onto Gerald Wallace to trade him, rather than cutting him in training camp as part of roster trimming. The main reason for keeping Wallace and wanting to trade him is the $10 million trade exception that can be created in moving him.

"If the C’s give up a first-rounder to unload his contract and don’t take salary back, they could create a $10MM+ trade exception. Easier said than done, as always, but I’m sure it’s something that Ainge has considered."

That’s a huge trade exception that could come in handy of a Rajon Rondo trade is made. It would take some valuable assets to make such a thing happen, but that $10 million or more trade exception would be something that makes a Rondo deal even sweeter.

Only time will tell what the Celtics do, but moving Wallace in a trade that creates that kind of a trade exception is a no-brainer.
