David Price had tough adjustment to Detroit Tigers after trade

David Price’s agent admitted the left-hander had a hard time transitioning from the only team he’s ever known, the Tampa Bay Rays, to the Detroit Tigers after a midseason trade, but his agent says Price is liking Detroit better now.

David Price might have had a harder-than-expected adjustment period after he was traded to the Detroit Tigers in a surprise three-team deal between the Tigers, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Seattle Mariners on the July 31 trade deadline, his agent said.

Price’s agent, Bo McKinnis, said the left-hander went through a “yo-yo” of emotions this season, thinking he had been traded earlier in the season by Tampa, believing he would finish the year with the Rays as they got hot and back in the race. Finally, he was acquired by the Tigers late on deadline day.

McKinnis said Price had a “typical transition period,” but was fine now, even after the Tigers had been bounced out of the MLB playoffs.

Price has said nothing but positive things publicly about the city of Detroit and the Tigers organization, and Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski also had praise for Price, who will likely be back in Detroit in 2015, his final year before free agency.

“Anytime you’re traded in the middle of a season when you’ve been somewhere else for a long time, of course it’s an adjustment,” Dombrowski told CBSSports.com. “He did a fine job for us, and he’s a tremendous person.”

While McKinnis said there was a sadness in leaving the Rays for Price, the 29-year-old doesn’t seem to want to discuss any other team than the one he’s on right now.

“That’s the last thing on my mind right now,” said Price when asked about free agency. “I’m not concerned about it.”
