The New York Jets might fire head coach Rex Ryan and/or John Idzik, but those moves would not come until after the end of the season.

If you hitch your wagon to Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith as your attempts at putting a franchise quarterback into place, that might be cause to lose your job. Sure enough, that will be the reality facing New York Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik, but not until the conclusion of the 2014 season.

The Jets are currently 1-4 and have a woeful 79 points scored in total this season. They have looked helpless at times and there is unrest among the ranks. That situation will only get worse if things go as predicted when the Jets face the Denver Broncos in week 6.

There is more to the Jets’ issues than the quarterback position, of course, and as such the current state of affairs might cost Ryan and Idzik their jobs. If it does, that will happen during the off-season, according to Ian Rapoport.

If Ryan got fired, he would likely have his choice of any defensive coordinator job in football, let alone the fact that he might get another head coaching offer. The Jets are aware of that fact:

If the Jets do make a change at head coach, they will have to answer some hard questions given Ryan’s strong reputation. Are they making a change because they really need a new voice, or is it just change for change’s sake because losing makes people restless?
