The Dolphins blew a fourth quarter lead against the Packers and head coach Joe Philbin is taking all the blame for the last-second defeat

Joe Philbin was seconds away from picking up his biggest win of the season as the Miami Dolphins were one play away from defeating Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on their home field on Sunday afternoon, but couldn’t make a stop on the game-winning drive and Philbin is taking the blame.

“I have to do a better job, first and foremost,” Philbin said, via ESPN.com. “I’m the head coach. We had a lead with four minutes to go. Like I said often, you win as a team and you lose as a team. We could have done better in all three phases, coaching as well.”

The Dolphins held a 24-17 lead over the Packers after back-to-back touchdowns from Lamar Miller and Mike Wallace put the home team on top of the Packers and looked like they were in control of the game and had taken momentum away from the Packers, but the defense allowed 10 points in the final 4:09 to let the game slip away in gut-wrenching fashion.

After a Mason Crosby field goal cut the deficit to four, the Packers got the ball back after some conservative and questionable play-calling, including a run play on a third-and-nine that could have put the game away had they picked up a first down.

Philbin also called a timeout before a fourth down attempt by the Packers on the game-winning drive that allowed Rodgers and the Packers time to regroup and call the right play to convert the fourth down to keep the drive alive.

Moments later Rodgers found Andrew Quarless open in the end zone for a four-yard touchdown to give the Packers a 27-24 win and left Philbin second-guessing his in-game decisions.

“Obviously that’s what I get paid to do,” Philbin said of his in-game decisions. “Some of them, I wished they worked out better.”
