The Chicago Cubs have started a large renovation process of Wrigley Field, and despite the upgrades, one can’t help but feel the nostalgia leave with the scrap metal.

In a move that wasted no time at all, the Chicago Cubs have begun to tear down Wrigley Field. Now before you go getting all sorts of upset, the MLB stadium, and national landmark of sorts, isn’t being torn down as a whole. The Cubs however, have begun a renovation project and the bleachers have been disposed of.

With the Cubs looking to update Wrigley Field, the outfield bleachers will be the first place that attention is focused. After the bleachers are rebuilt, the Cubs will have an additional 300 seats in the outfield. On top of the additional seating, the left and right field walls will be moved back into the streets to allow for wider concourses and bullpen space.

Following the 2015 season, the Cubs will begin a renovation project on the center field bleachers. On top of the seating areas, both clubhouses are expected to undergo a renovation, as well as introducing new lounges for fans. There was a long back and forth battle for the Cubs as they had to get approval from property owners near Wrigley Field. However, after receiving final approval in July, Chicago held a groundbreaking ceremony last weekend. This first phase of construction is expected to be completed by Opening Day 2015.

While Wrigley Field is no doubt a sanctuary of sorts for baseball fans, this may be as good of a time as ever to usher in a new look to the stadium. Putting in the past several years of losing, the Cubs horizons look bright and a young wave of talent should elevate the Cubs to new heights.

Theo Epstein has done a marvelous job since joining the organization, and it will be his work on the field when the construction is complete and the shiny new features are on full display, both on the diamond and around the ballpark.
