Rangers’ Dan Girardi Injured By Blocked Shot
Dan Girardi is out of game with injured foot in Rangers-Sharks matchup
The New York Rangers are dealing with post-Stanley Cup Final blues in the worst kind of way.
The team had one of the more questionable off-seasons, and it seems that everyone’s insistence that Henrik Lundqvist makes up for the Tanner Glass acquisition is… well, a bit premature.

With Dan Boyle already out of the team’s lineup for injury, the Rangers cannot afford another blue-liner sitting out games. They might not have a choice, though, as veteran defenseman Dan Girardi went into the locker room during the Rangers-Sharks game Sunday night.
Girardi was injured during the game when a blocked shot ricocheted off his ankle, and he went down in his attempts to guard Sharks’ Joe Pavelski. The shot, taken by Matt Irwin, seems to have seriously hurt Girardi’s foot.
The blue liner skated off the ice in obvious discomfort, then the team tweeted out that he would not be returning for the remainder of the game.
The Rangers were luckily able to overcome the San Jose Sharks in a 4-0 shutout, but the team is still sitting at a relatively unimpressive 3-3-0 record for the start of the season. It could just be early season rust for netminder Lundqvist- and he isn’t the only goaltender in the league currently dealing with this- but the team doesn’t look nearly as effective as they did back in the spring.
