Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle took time out to meet with Lauren Hill, a college basketball player with terminal cancer

The story of Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still is well-documented by now.  The NFL defensive player for the Bengals has a daughter who is battling cancer and was kept on the practice squad by the team so he could pay bills.  Now, he’s paying it forward.

Last week I read the story of college basketball player Lauren Hill.  She is a player for Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati who was diagnosed with cancer last year while playing high school basketball in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.  Still also heard of her story and met with her today.

Hill has brain cancer.  She has been given only a couple of months to live.  Her dying wish?  To play in one game for her team before she dies.  Because of the advanced timeline of her prognosis, a game originally scheduled for November 15th, is being played on November 2nd.

Still’s four-year-old daughter as we know is battling pediatric cancer and his story has become an inspiration for his team, other teams, and fans everywhere.  He thought the least he could do was do the same for Hill that so many had done for him.

Hill originally was diagnosed with cancer while playing as a senior in high school.  She got dizzy, had vertigo, and was tired.  She thought she was just out of shape.  Turned out she had a brain tumor.  She went through radiation and chemotherapy but after a follow-up MRI last month, it was determined that the tumor had actually grown and nothing could be done.  She was given just months to live.

All Still wanted to do was provide some support to someone he can resonate with what they are going through.  Still continues to inspire.
