Change is in the air as Texas A&M seeks to snap three-game losing streak

Reeling from three straight losses which has seen Texas A&M been outscored 142-51, Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin is considering sweeping changes to his starting lineups, with quarterback Kenny Hill among the possible alterations.

“I don’t know,” Sumlin said. “We’ve got a bunch of practice. We’ve got plenty of time and plenty of reps to determine … a lot of evaluation going on to be honest with you.”

Hill has been intercepted six times in losses to Mississippi State, Mississippi and Alabama that have dropped Texas A&M (5-3, 1-3) from sixth in the nation to out of this week’s AP top 25 poll. Hill had thrown 17 touchdowns in his first five starts, yet has thrown just six in the last three weeks as defenses have been able to throttle an offense that had made Hill an early favorite for the Heisman Trophy.

Last Saturday’s 59-0 loss to Alabama — which marked the school’s worst defeat since a 77-0 loss to Oklahoma in 2003 — marked Hill’s low point, as he threw for just 138 yards and was sacked five times by the Crimson Tide defense.

If the Aggies move past Hill, then freshman Kyle Allen will get the start when Texas A&M — which is off this week — returns to the field against Louisiana-Monroe on November 1. Allen has appeared in four games this season, completing 23 of 38 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns while being intercepted twice. Allen was regarded as the top prep quarterback in the Class of 2014.

Should neither Allen nor Hill work out, Texas A&M will bring in another top-tier recruit to College Station next fall, as Kyler Murray — whose father, Kevin, led the Aggies to a Cotton Bowl over Bo Jackson and Auburn in 1986 — verbally committed to the school earlier this year.
