If the Florida Gators are in the market for a new head football coach this year could they make a run at former Oregon and current Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly to replace Will Muschamp?

The Florida Gators are likely to part ways with Will Muschamp after his fourth season in Gainesville comes to an end in November after back-to-back disappointing seasons, so would athletic director Jeremy Foley place a call to offensive innovator Chip Kelly and bring him back to college football?

According to ESPN radio host Colin Cowherd, via a report from 247Sports he believes the former Ducks head coach would entertain the possibility and at least listen to Florida if they showed interest in him,  “Let me just say, Chip will take the phone call if Florida makes it to him,” Cowherd said on his radio show Thursday morning.

Kelly experienced tremendous success in his four years as the head coach at Oregon after previously serving as the offensive coordinator when he won three Pac-12 titles and led the Ducks to the 2011 BCS National Championship Game before leaving in 2013 to head to the NFL and coach the Eagles.

In his first season with the Eagles, Kelly led them to the NFC East title, so why would he entertain returning to college football where he was issued a show cause penalty for NCAA infractions incurred while at Oregon?

According to Football Scoop, he wouldn’t and has no interest in Florida.

Kelly’s show cause penalty ends on Dec. 26 of this year and while his offensive brand of football would be just what Florida needs to return to prominence, the chances of him leaving his native northeast for the south and college football to start recruiting again and dealing with NCAA rules and regulations are about as realistic as Will Muschamp winning coach of the year.
