The SMU Mustangs are without a head coach following June Jones abrupt resignation at the beginning of the year but it’s not Mack Brown who could be the new coach in Dallas, but rather former Texas high school coaching legend and current Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morrs

SMU is without a win this season and without a head coach after the sudden and surprising resignation from June Jones after two games this season. One report from the Dallas Morning News has the university floating $4 million a year to take over the gig, but another report has shot that down, so who is the likely head coach of the Mustangs for 2015 and beyond?

According to Football Scoop, the prediction is that current Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris ultimately gets the job to return to to his home state.

Morris was born in Edgewood, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M before embarking on a coaching career that saw him become one of the best high school coaches in the state. Morris coached 16 seasons on the prep level in Texas 16 where he compiled a 169-38 record.

His last two years saw him lead Lake Travis High School to back-to-back state titles with former top recruit Garrett Gilbert under center before taking a job on the staff of Todd Graham at Tulsa as a co-offensive coordinator. Morris used that job as a springboard to get the offensive coordinator job under Dabo Swinney at Clemson where he has been calling plays since 2011.

Morris has been in the market for a head coaching job in years past, including at his alma mater before Kevin Sumlin was hired, so after a couple extra years of honing his craft at Clemson that elusive head coaching job could be his at SMU.
