Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins

The Redskins are coming off their first win since Week Two, but that could mean very little this week- they’re up against the Dallas Cowboys.

Tony Romo and company have the home field advantage, so expect this to be an uneven experience at best- and a thrashing at worst. The Dallas squad are 6-1, going undefeated after shaking off a season opener they’d like to forget. As the overall dominant team- both in stats and in play as we hit the middle of the season- there is little reason why this game shouldn’t go exactly as we all expect it to.

Keys to Victory:

There’s very little the disorganized Washington Redskins can do in order to come out with a win this week. I’ve been fond of Kirk Cousins’ play over the past few weeks- the Skins are far from the Oakland Raiders, and arguably stand above the Jaguars, Panthers, and Browns, as well. Cousins still needs to develop more consistency, though, and the team leans too heavily on DeSean Jackson for a truly strong, together franchise to allow them to walk away with a win. Pierre Garcon is the next step below Jackson- and he’s nowhere near the level the team needs to compete with the Cowboys.

Looking at the game from that perspective, the Cowboys could lose this game for the same reason I’ve warned that any team could lose a ‘gimme’ game- assuming that they have what it takes to advance to a 7-1 record without actually putting in the effort. Teams like Washington aren’t competitive enough to win of their own merit alone, but they possess a fierce desperation that can easily overpower a squad that relaxes its hold on the dominance it enters the game with. Tony Romo will have to look like Tony Romo, the team’s defense will have to remain alert, and they can’t afford to make stupid mistakes. Cousins still doesn’t possess NFL starter consistency, but he’s getting better every week- underestimating this is the fastest ticket to a loss.

Betting Odds:

Point Spread: WSH: -117, DAL:-103
Moneyline: WSH: +400, DAL: -475
O/U: 49.5

Predictions:

Unless the Redskins magically sprout a top-level quarterback and clean up their defense, this game is in the bag for Dallas. It’s not a matter of ‘if’ they’ll win, but ‘by how much’.
