When Pau Gasol was a free agent this summer, he considered a reunion in New York with Phil Jackson. His brother Marc is having the same thoughts.

More from Chicago Bulls

Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies can become a free agent next summer and he’s apparently gotten some advice already from his older brother Pau, who signed with the Chicago Bulls when he hit the market in July.

Pau Gasol told the New York Post that he’s had some conversations with baby brother (if you can call a 7-foot-1 guy a “baby” anything) about current New York Knicks boss Phil Jackson.

Jackson was Pau’s coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, where they won NBA titles together in 2009 and 2010.

"“We’ll see what happens next year, what he decides, and hopefully he’ll have a strong year and all the options in the world because he’s one of the top centers, interior players, in the league, so any team would be fortunate to have him,” Pau said of Marc. “It’s a personal decision. I talked to my brother enough about Phil that he knows what he brings to the table.”"

Marc was involved in the trade that sent Pau to the Lakers in February 2008 to play for Jackson, then the coach in L.A. The Grizzlies acquired Marc’s draft rights as part of the return package for sending Pau to Hollywoodland.

Marc Gasol, a former All-Star and Defensive Player of the Year, was limited to 59 games last season because of a knee injury. Memphis was 40-19 with Marc and 10-13 without him, so it’s likely the Grizzlies will make a strong push to keep him.
