What happens when Jason Chimera is on the wrong end of a big hit? He heads back to the bench with a mangled nose that is leaking blood.

During Wednesday night’s slate of NHL action, the Washington Capitals squared off against the Detroit Red Wings at the Verizon Center.

The Capitals lost on home ice, but they may not even be the biggest losers from the game.

That award goes to the nose of Capitals forward Jason Chimera.

Last time we wrote about Chimera and a devastating hit, Chimera was on the winning side while New Jersey Devils forward Martin Havlat bled all over the ice with a cut over his lip that required stitches.

On Wednesday night, Chimera’s nose got mangled after a hit and it was clearly noticeable when he was sitting back on the bench.

The NBCSN broadcast was drawn to Jason Chimera’s nose rearrangement and they showed a close up of the damage that was done. Check out the photo below (via Pro Hockey Talk).

That cannot be good.

I am clearly no doctor, but it is safe to assume that something is wrong with Chimera’s nose after Wednesday night’s game and there is a good chance he was turned in to a mouth breather for the remainder of the contest.
