Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles: I Have To Do A Better Job
By Cory Buck
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles said he has to do a better job of protecting the ball, as he’s thrown seven interceptions in the team’s last four games.
The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to get back on track after losing to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8. Much of that starts with quarterback Nick Foles, who threw two interceptions in the loss, which equals his total from all of 2013. Foles has thrown seven picks in the team’s last four games, making things much tougher for the 5-2 Eagles in their bid to repeat atop the NFC East.

“Every single day, I learn more and more about playing this position and playing in this league,” Foles said per ESPN. “It’s easy when you’re doing great, easy when you’re throwing a lot of touchdowns and you’re not making any mistakes. But when mistakes happen, it’s going to be brought up. You can’t let it affect you, because when it starts affecting you, then you don’t throw it, you’re a split-second later.”
While few expected Nick Foles to repeat his performance from last season, when he was nearly flawless with the ball, they probably weren’t expecting Foles to be on pace for nearly 20 interceptions by the 2014 season’s mid-point. That’s where Foles is though and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur believes it all comes back to technique.
“What I’m finding with Nick is when he sets his feet and steps into the throws, he’s awesome,” Shurmur said. “What we’re also finding is there are times when he gets flushed or he flushes himself and he doesn’t have his feet underneath him, and he’s not as good as he could be.”
Foles concurred but also noted he’s more concerned about what’s above his ankles, not below them. “Just because I made a few mistakes, I’m not going to not throw it when I don’t have my feet under me. It’s decision-making where I really have to get better.”
