The NBA extension deadline came and went last night, with the Oklahoma City Thunder failing to get a deal done with point guard Reggie Jackson.

Oklahoma City Thunder fans have noticed a trend in which players rise through the ranks with the team, get good and then leave. James Harden was the biggest example of that and it appears that the writing is on the wall for guard Reggie Jackson.

The deadline to get a contract extension done was at midnight, and the Thunder were among the teams to have not gotten a deal done with their soon-to-be restricted free agent. According to Darnell Mayberry, the Thunder and Jackson didn’t work out a deal in time last night. That won’t stop Oklahoma City from trying to re-sign Jackson this summer, at least that’s what general manager Sam Presti is counting on.

"“We are looking forward to re-opening the conversations this coming July and expect Reggie to continue as a core member of the Thunder for many years to come. At this time, we have to put all of our focus on our team and the season in front of us and Reggie is a big part of that.”"

Jackson’s market value is hard to read, as there aren’t man other point guards of his caliber hitting the market in the summer. Ricky Rubio locked up a $55 million extension before the deadline, which is a deal that Jackson will want to try and top or at least match.

He’ll be a restricted free agent, which means the Thunder get final say on matching any offer sheets floated his way. But teams out there want star guards which means someone might be crazy enough to float a max offer sheet and truly mess things up for the Thunder.
