Los Angeles Lakers’ guard Kobe Bryant has made a lot of shots in his career.
He’s missed a lot as well.
In fact, with 13 misses in Tuesday night’s game between the Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies, Bryant will break the NBA record for most shots missed in a career. Former Boston Celtics‘ great John Havlicek has the NBA record of 13,417 missed shots.
This record would be so Kobe Bryant. He is perhaps the least shy player in the history of basketball in terms of taking – and often making – difficult shots. He is one of the hardest-working athletes in the history of sports. He’s also supremely confident, believing he can make any shot he takes, which has led to Bryant taking more than his fair of bad shots. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a player has taken more bad shots than Bryant.
As good as he’s been, he’s a career 45.3% shooter from the field, 33.5% shooter from beyond the arc and 83.7% shooter from the free throw line.
This year, has played in all six games for the Lakers, who have been one of the worst teams in basketball (1-5). He has already taken 142 shots, missing 86 shots. He’s averaging 26.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 39.4% from the floor, 28.6% from beyond the arc and 76.5% from the free throw line.
On 36 years old and on a bad team, we can not only expect Bryant to break that record on Tuesday night (or Wednesday night at the New Orleans Pelicans if he has a good night against the Grizzlies), we can expect him to continue to add to what could become an unbreakable record.
