Nick Young Says He’s Tonto To Kobe Bryant’s Lone Ranger
By Sam Richmond
Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young believes he’s Kobe Bryant’s sidekick in the way Tonto is for the Lone Ranger.
The Los Angeles Lakers lost nine of their first 10 games this season. Then, Nick “Swaggy P” Young returned from injury and they’ve won two straight.

Given his fun and confident personality, it was obvious once the final buzzer sounded in the Lakers’ second consecutive win that Swaggy P would take full credit for the team’s turnaround.
Right on cue, Young claimed after the game that his presence is necessary for Kobe Bryant and the Lakers to succeed, similar to how Tonto’s is for the Lone Ranger.
From USA Today:
"“They can’t just focus on Kobe all the time. That’s my Tonto, It’s me being Tonto, the Lone Ranger get a little help the bigs are battling, they do their thing but they can’t do what Swaggy P do.”"
Of course, Young didn’t stop there, as he also compared himself to Michael Jackson and Prince.
"“It’s all about my swag, it’s a part of my repertoire,” Young said. “I just walk off. I leave a presence when I walk off like Michael Jackson, Prince, all them guys.”"
This is the epitome of Swaggy P being Swaggy P.
He’s one of the most likable players in the NBA for the sole reason hat he doesn’t take himself too seriously and has fun with the game.
Sure, his presence doesn’t actually make the type of difference that he’s suggesting. But he’s playing basketball for a living and having a good time. Hard to get mad at that.
