Sunday night was a coming out party for New England Patriots running back Jonas Gray as he ran all over the Indianapolis Colts, however it didn’t take him long to get on the bad side of head coach Bill Belichick.
Gray was not on the practice field for the Patriots on Friday and that’s because he was sent home by Belichick after he was late to practice, according to a report from ESPN Boston.
In the report, a source told ESPN that the reason for Gray’s tardiness was due to the fact that the alarm clock on his cell phone didn’t go off because the battery in the device died.
This is a perfectly legitimate excuse, but that doesn’t mean that it’s one that’s acceptable, and it’s certainly not acceptable by Bill Belichick standards.
Gray vaulted his way to the No. 1 running back spot on the Patriots’s depth chart after he torched the Colts defense on Sunday night to the tune of 201 yards on 37 carries with four touchdowns.
On Thursday the Patriots brought back LeGarrette Blount, who was cut by the Steelers on Tuesday morning after he left the field early on Monday night over differences with the staff in regards to playing time.
So even if Gray is limited this week, the Pats have reinforcements.
