Before actually joining the New England Patriots a few years ago, Randy Moss thought the original phone call from Bill Belichick was someone trying to get one over on him.

Randy Moss had one of the greatest individual seasons ever for a wide receiver in NFL history when he was with the New England Patriots. He recorded 98 catches for 1,493 yards as he helped the Patriots reach the Super Bowl, and it was a year that just months before he could never envisioned would have happened.

No, he really didn’t see that coming. So much so, that he thought the original call from the Pats and head coach Bell Belichick was a flat-out joke.

In a recent interview with Comcast New England, Moss revealed that when he got the call from Belichick on draft day of 2007 after spending two years with the Oakland Raiders, he thought that maybe someone was trying to toy with his emotions.

“When I came from Oakland, I was in a dark place,” Moss said, via CSN New England. “I was in a dark place because I was there for two years; I just got traded from the Vikings. Things wasn’t going too well in California. I was away from home. My career wasn’t going the way I wanted it to go.

“I remember I was in Houston, Texas, during the (2007) draft and I got a call from Bill Belichick. I thought it was one of my friends playing. I was like ‘Who is this?’ He was like, ‘Uh, it’s Bill Belichick.’ I was like, ‘Man, get real! Who is this?'”

Well as we would come to find out, and Moss himself, it was in fact not a joke and it ended up with he and Tom Brady tearing through the entire NFL that season, going undefeated in the regular season.
