It’s easy to have a light mood in a press conference after winning 44-10 against an NCAA Pac 12 foe, however after Saturday’s Oregon Ducks victory over the Colorado Buffaloes in Eugene I get the feeling coach Mark Helfrich would have answered a students question about Mark Mariota the same way win or lose.
Always seeming like a good guy anyway, Helfrich was asked about the Ducks quarterback and what his decision may be to stay in school or leave after the season for the NFL. Helfrich turned the tables and asked the student what he was hearing.
Classic answer. I like coaches who can have fun and lighten the mood at press conferences. You’d never see guys like Bill Belichick or Gregg Popovich having a press conference like that.
What I loved most about the question though was the answer the student, from O’Hara Catholic School, gave after Helfrich turned the tables on him. She said Jesus, Girls, and Marcus Mariota are all people talk about. Helfrich loved it and called it the best question of the day.
