The University of North Carolina celebrated their win over Duke by causing extensive damage to Duke’s visiting locker room.

Apparently the University of North Carolina football team subscribes to the “a party just isn’t a party unless there is extensive property damage” theory of celebration. UNC decided to celebrate their 45-20 win over rival Duke on Thursday night by spray-painting the visiting locker room.

According to a report in the Herald Sun, the damage was extensive.

"Interior and exterior walls in the locker room as well as the carpet were painted. The letters “UNC” were also painted on a wall next to a door entering the facility and elsewhere in the locker room."

The winner of this rivalry game is awarded the “victory bell.” As a tradition, the winning team gets to spray paint the bell after the game. Unfortunately, UNC decided to take the paint with them into the locker room and paint more than just the trophy.

UNC Spokesman Kevin Best apologized for the incident and said that UNC would pay for all the damage done.

"“We would like to apologize to the Duke Football program and Duke University for some inappropriate actions after last Thursday night’s game in Durham. Our team took the celebrations too far when they were painting the bell, resulting in damage to some of the facilities at Duke.  We take full responsibility for our actions and will be paying for all costs associated with the cleanup.  We view this as a rivalry built on mutual respect and we expect our players to behave better in a way that is more befitting of the rivalry.”"
