Jake Gyllenhaal Looks Like A Beast For ‘Southpaw’
By Cory Buck
Actor Jake Gyllenhaal put on an incredible amount of muscle for his role in Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Southpaw’ set for release next year.
If you want to be considered for major Oscar nominations, undergoing a physical transformation never hurts your chances. The latest example of such could be the buzz already being garnered by actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who has gone all-out in training to portray a boxer in director Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw.

“I’m so pumped, man,” Fuqua said, per Deadline, which is also credited for leaking the photo seen above this piece. “Jake is going to change how people see him. I had him training twice a day in the boxing ring, he did two-a-days seven days a week. I pretty much had him with me and my trainer every day.”
This is especially impressive for Gyllenhaal, who had to lose a bunch of weight to star in Nightcrawler, which was released on October 31. Now he’s had to bulk up with at least 15 pounds of pure muscle and it appears to be paying off as he continues work on the film set to be released some time in 2015.
“Literally. I think he broke up with his girlfriend because he was just in the gym every day,” Fuqua said. “He was training like a fighter. I had him sparring, really getting hit. I put him in situations where I wanted to see what he was made of. No one but fighters understand the sacrifice it takes to be a fighter.”
