After Michigan fired Brady Hoke on Tuesday, the university has promised a thorough, exhaustive search which almost certainly means they’re waiting for an interview with high-end options like Harbaugh. Carr was quick to jump on that line of thought.
“Everyone has an opinion, and I am no different,” Carr said Thursday, per the Detroit News. “If I had a choice, I would choose Jim Harbaugh. But it will be Jim Hackett’s decision, and that is as it should be.”
Whoever Michigan hires, it will be their third head coach to arrive since Lloyd Carr retired in 2007. The team hasn’t enjoyed nearly as much success in the past seven years as they did in the 13 years under Carr.
Former Wolverines QB Brian Griese, who won a national championship with Carr in 1997, said the team will leave no stone unturned in its search, regardless of who they choose.
“I know that the priorities and the requirements for this position are going to be correct,” Griese said. “And it’s going to be a combination when you look at that axis of performance and values … the candidate that can bring those pieces together will get the job.”
