Not that it was a likely outcome, given that his last pass was thrown five years ago next month, but Kurt Warner won’t be playing quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.

Put those red-and-white No. 13 jerseys back on the hangers—Kurt Warner won’t be making a comeback for the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals improved to 11-3 with a thrilling 12-6 field-goal fest victory over the St. Louis Rams Thursday night, but lost starting quarterback Drew Stanton to a knee injury in the third quarter and had to finish the game with Ryan Lindley under center.

That would be the same Ryan Lindley the Cardinals signed off the practice squad of the San Diego Chargers last month after their real starting quarterback, Carson Palmer, went down for the year with a torn ACL.

The same Ryan Lindley who in four starts for Arizona in 2012 threw seven interceptions and no touchdown passes—the dreaded ∞ TD-INT ratio.

Arians was asked about the possibility of bringing in Warner on Friday:

Warner is 43 now and is on the Hall of Fame ballot. Given that he shares a set on NFL Network with yellow-blazer wearers Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin and Warren Sapp, did anyone really think he was going to reset that clock to come in and try to learn a new offense in three weeks?

Warner did lead the Cardinals to their only Super Bowl appearance, following the 2008 season.

But coming back five years after he retired? Man, Warner is more likely to go back to stocking shelves at a grocery store before he does that.
