There was no shortage of people who wanted to see Mariota lose the Heisman based simply on the fact that everyone was handing it to him almost as soon as he was announced as a candidate. But it’s really hard to find legitimate reasons to hate the nicest guy in college football and this is being proved by his in-state rivals at Oregon State.
After Mariota won the first ever Heisman Trophy that an Oregon school has won, Oregon State took out a full page ad congratulating him on honoring the state so well.
It’s really hard to hate Mariota and that’s as true as it’s ever been with Oregon State taking time to congratulate him on winning the Heisman. People have a right to be skeptical of his NFL prospects but there’s no calling into question his character or how well respected he is by his college football brethren.
