Sony Has No Further Release Plans For ‘The Interview’

Sony has pulled the plug on The Interview after hacks and threats and, now, don’t plan on releasing the movie at all in any form

What a mess this is…

On Wednesday, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced they would not be releasing James Franco and Seth Rogen’s latest comedy The Interview after hackers threatened movie theaters and moviegoers, according to Variety.

Shortly after the announcement, Sony also said they have “no further release plans for the film,” which means the movie will not be available anywhere or in any form, not even DVD, Blu-Ray, or on-demand services.

Sony’s announcement comes two weeks after those same hackers, believed to be from the North Korean government, stole thousands of documents, emails, and Sony property.

Of course, Sony does not want anyone to get hurt, especially for going to a theater to watch a movie, but Sony is basically swallowing $42 million, the cost to make the movie, and an unknown amount of money in advertising costs.

According to the Variety report, Sony could still sell the movie film to another distributor, which will likely happen if Sony chooses to. There’s too much potential profit involved for every distributor to pass up on this opportunity.

You also have to consider the message this sends to America and the rest of the world. Does America stand for North Korean hackers calling the shots on the entertainment business? Is that a place where we want to live? Do we really want our entertainment censored by the threat of terror?

We know America isn’t always there for its people, but America is always there for a private, international company. We’ll see how America responds.

This is the end (see what I did there?) of The Interview for Sony, but this is just the beginning of a bigger problem for America, and their leader is a very small man.

Where’s Dennis Rodman when we really need him?
