Bruins head coach Claude Julien criticizes his team for being ‘too cute’ with their scoring chances.

It’s funny, the last word most people would ever use to describe the Boston Bruins is cute. Especially when they have guys like Zdeno Chara and Milan Lucic on their team. Not to mention, Brad Marchand.

However, that is the term that head coach Claude Julien used to describe his team after their latest 2-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. He wasn’t pleased with the way his team played and not getting the puck to the net enough.

“We passed up so many shot opportunities and looked for the cute plays,” Julien said.

This happens a lot when teams are struggling to score. They get away from doing the basic things because they feel they need to do something extra to start scoring.

Boston has certainly struggled scoring goals this year, ranking 10th in the Eastern Conference and 19th in the league in goals scored. So, it’s understandable that the Bruin’s are a bit gun-shy right now.

One thing you tend to get away from when you’re struggling to score is, surprisingly, shooting the puck. You have it in your head that you haven’t been scoring, so your logic tells you the higher percentage play is to look for the cute passing play.

This is what the Bruins have been doing, and Claude Julien is not too happy about it.

The Bruins came out with 3 points out of a possible 6 on their three-game road trip. Julien is not at all satisfied with that and states that if the team is satisfied with that, then they’re going to be on vacation come April.

If the Bruins don’t get out of their scoring slump, then Julien may be right.
