Hockey is a violent sport and that means sometimes we get scary moments that make us forget about the game and worry only about the player inside the sweater.

Such a moment occurred in Saturday’s game between the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, as Canucks winger Jannik Hansen collapsed on the bench following a big hit he took just moments before. Hansen’s teammates immediately called for the medical team, who took thewinger to the locker room for further attention.

Hansen was conscious while being helped to the locker room and was later reported as moving around on his own in the locker room following further attention.

Sportsnet’s Scott Oake reported during the broadcast of the game that Hansen was up and moving around in the Canucks locker room on his own power.

"“Hansen was spotted walking across the hallway to the Canucks workout room where we would expect he’s undergoing some lite-physical tests,” Oake reported further during Sportsnet’s broadcast of Saturday’s game. “But he’s up and (walking) around under his own power…”"

This isn’t the first time a player has had a medical emergency on the bench in the NHL. Last year Rich Peverley of the Dallas Stars had an issue with his heart on the bench during a game that caused him to be rushed to the hospital. He was later confirmed to be alright, but the incident was scary nonetheless.

Hansen seems to be alright after the hit, but that doesn’t make the situation that he was literally knocked unconscious any less scary.
