Barry Alvarez: Melvin Gordon Is Best Wisconsin RB Ever
By Evan Massey
Wisconsin Badgers athletic director Barry Alvarez said that Melvin Gordon is the best Wisconsin running back ever.
Melvin Gordon didn’t end up winning the Heisman Trophy this year, but he was one of the most dynamic running backs that the college football game has ever seen. He has 2,336 yards and 26 touchdowns on 309 carries so far this season, with the Outback Bowl against the Auburn Tigers still to come.

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez came out and made some very glowing comments about Gordon, and called him the best running back to ever wear a Badgers jersey. There have been some very talented running backs come through Wisconsin before, including Ron Dayne, Montee Ball, and Michael Bennett. Take a look at what Alvarez actually said to the media.
"“I’ll remember Melvin as probably the best back to come through here. And that’s saying a lot.”"
Obviously that is a big compliment to pick him over all of those other great running backs, but Gordon has deserved that type of comment. Gordon has had an unforgettable career with the Badgers, and it will be strange not to see him there next season assuming he does enter the NFL Draft.
That being said, he has already begun drawing comparisons to former NFL greats even before being drafted. NFL analyst Gil Brandt went so far as to say that Gordon was a very similar player to Tony Dorsett. Those types of comments are extremely generous and it shows just how much talent Gordon has moving forward in his career.
There will be plenty of teams with major interest in drafting Gordon during the 2015 NFL Draft. Quite a few teams across the NFL need a running back with the playmaking skills that Gordon possesses, and he is nearly a lock to be a first round pick. It will be very interesting to see who takes him and what type of NFL career he ends up having.
