No. 20-17

20. Teddy Bridgewater – Minnesota Vikings – Power Ranking Score: 213.2

I am 100% on the Teddy Bridgewater bandwagon. Not only do I think he is the best rookie QB in this year’s class, but I think he has a chance to be a Drew Brees type franchise QB. Of the QBs that have taken at least 25% of their team’s snaps he ranks sixth best in accuracy percentage. While he may not be airing it out deep a lot, his 5.9 air yards per completion are the same as Russell Wilson and only slightly below the aforementioned Brees (6.2).

19. Jay Cutler – Chicago Bears – Power Ranking Score: 213.5

Jay Cutler gets his job back after a one game benching thanks to an injury to Jimmy Clausen. Despite his “somber” demeanor and high interception numbers there is no disputing that Cutler is one of the top twenty QBs in the NFL this weekend. The problem is his consistency. Cutler could throw for 300 yards with 4 TDs and no INTs and no one would be surprised, but he could also throw for 180 yards with no TDs and 3 INTs and no one would be surprised either.

18. Mark Sanchez – Philadelphia Eagles – Power Ranking Score: 218.4

I think Mark Sanchez is one of the 32 best QBs in the NFL. By that standard he belongs as a starting QB in the NFL. The problem is that no team wants a QB that ranks in the bottom third of starting QBs so his spot is always going to be in jeopardy. His Power Ranking Score puts him ahead of the other back ups but behind most of the established starters. That slot describes Sanchez perfectly, better than a back up but not as good as the proven NFL starters.

17. Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers – Power Ranking Score: 219.3

Cam Newton returned from the injuries from his car accident and gutted out a win against the Browns. While Newton has had a down year by his standards he is still a QB with a ton of ability. The one thing that can’t be blamed on his poor supporting cast is his poor accuracy this season. His 66.4 accuracy percentage ranks him 37th amongst QBs that have taken at least 25% of their team’s snaps. Last season he ranked 18th in the same category.
