Texas Tech transfer and UCLA sophomore forward Wanna Bail has been ruled academically ineligible and will miss the remainder of the Bruins season,  according to Ryan Kartje of the Orange County Register.

Bail was a part-time contributor for Ben Howland’s club, averaging only nine minutes and 1.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game off the bench for UCLA after transferring from the Red Raiders where he reportedly experienced academic difficulties as well.

The 6-8 native of the Bahamas was the No. 113 overall recruit regardless of position, No. 27 power forward and the No. 9 recruit in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings out of high school.

Without Bail, UCLA will have to play with a short bench that is down to Noah Allen and freshmen Thomas Welsh and Gyorgy Goloman. None of these three have much in the way of in-game experience so the depth of the Bruins will be tested for the remainder of the season unless one of this trio develops rapidly and shows the staff he is capable of extended playing time.

Bail played in 11 of 12 games this year for UCLA.

UCLA is 8-4 entering Sunday’s game at Alabama with three of their four losses coming against ranked opponents. UCLA lost 78-56 to No. 5 North Carolina on Nov. 27, No. 9 Gonzaga 87-74 on Dec. 13 at home and followed that up with an 83-44 loss to No. 1 Kentucky that saw the Bruins trail 41-7 at halftime.

Pac-12 play begins with a road trip to Colorado on Jan. 2 and return home for a date with Stanford on Jan. 8.
