The Chicago Bears missed the playoffs for another consecutive season, and the axe has fallen not only on head coach Marc Trestman but general manager Phil Emry as well.

More from Chicago Bears

After another losing season with the Chicago Bears, the team has decided to part ways with a major member of the front office. While rumors still swirl about the future of head coach Marc Trestman, the Bears have gone ahead and fired Phil Emery first.

The firing is being seen almost as a trade off at this point. The Bears were rumored to be firing Marc Trestman for not being able to get along with Jay Cutler, but instead the team has fired the guy who gave Cutler his massive contract that is causing all the problems.

Trestman was eventually fired, but the Bears canning both threat head coach and general manager is a sign that things are about to change in a big way. This also throws the future of Jay Cutler in doubt, but the team could eye someone like Mike Shanahan to come in and take over not only the head coaching duties but also front office general manager duties as well, much like what Bill Belichick does in New England.

Either way, Phil Emry is out in Chicago and his tenure as general manager is going to be defined by the contract he gave Jay Cutler that ultimately cost him his job.
